Hi, today I’m going to show you how to configure a new Mini Maxwell using the offline method.
The offline method is most useful when configuring a new Mini Maxwell.
If you’ve already configured the Mini Maxwell, but you’ve lost the network address, then the offline method will not work for you and you’ll have to use the serial method.
The offline method requires that we set up a tiny network so that we can use a web browser to access Mini Maxwell’s network configuration page.
Let’s begin by gathering the things we’ll need.
First, we’ll need to accumulate all the configuration parameters.
These are as follows:
-Configuration method: DHCP or Static?
Most users will want to use the static method.
The following are needed only for the static method:
-Host Name and Domain Name
-IPv4 Address and Subnet Mask
-Default Router Address
-At Least 1 DNS Server Address
-Network Time Protocol Server Addresses (these are optional)
-Syslog Server Address (also optional)
Next, we’ll need these items: the Mini Maxwell, along with its power supply, and a desktop or laptop computer with an Ethernet port.
If your computer does not have an Ethernet port, you may want to use a USB Ethernet adapter, like this one.
Plug in the Mini Maxwell’s power supply.
It takes Mini Maxwell about 90 seconds to boot.
In the meantime, we can start connecting it to our laptop.
Mini Maxwell has three Ethernet ports. The one we want to use is the management port.
It’s the one closest to the power supply.
Mini Maxwell’s Ethernet interfaces have crossover sensing, so you can run the Ethernet cable directly from the Mini Maxwell to your computer.
You may not get link state at this point because you haven’t configured the interface on your laptop yet.
So let’s begin doing that.
We need to tell our laptop what IP address to use.
Mini Maxwell, by default, comes up with an address of 192.168.0.5
So let’s give our laptop 192.168.0.6.
How you do that will depend on the operating system you’re running on your laptop.
In any case, you’ll want to use these numbers:
IP Address: 192.168.0.6
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 (/24 prefix)
Your Ethernet interfaces should now be showing a link state.
Next enter the following address in your computer’s web browser: 192.168.05
Your browser should now display the Mini Maxwell main screen. Click the “configure management” button.
Fill in the form with the configuration parameters you collected earlier and click submit.
You’ll be asked to provide a username and password. Enter the username and password provided to you by Interworking Labs when you acquired the Mini Maxwell.
We have now changed the network configuration. It will take effect on the next reboot of the Mini Maxwell.
Thank you for watching, and I hope you found this video helpful.
